About The Course

This course targets future CELTA candidates who are planning to take the CELTA and need to be prepared for the demands of the course. It is a practical course that helps course participants understand the subject areas covered on the course. The course will orient course participants on what to expect if they are accepted on to the CELTA course.

Course Content:

The CELTA Application Process: the interview and related tasks:

By the end of the course, course participants will be able to recognize the CELTA requirements and identify key terminologies and interview processes; The first session will orient course participants on how to apply for the course and the requirements needed for acceptance. It will also include samples of the pre-selection task and interview questions.

Written Work: Assignments:

By the end of the course, course participants will be able to identify the difference between the four written assignments and the rubric for each; Course participants will learn about the four written assignments they have to do once they are on the course. They will understand the rubric for each assignment, and get a sample of each as well.

Raising Language Awareness:

By the end of the course, course participants will be able to identify and evaluate their linguistic ability; In this session, course participants will be able to identify their linguistic ability and evaluate their areas of strengths and those to work on. They will receive support in understanding and analyzing some challenging target structures.

Planning Lessons:

By the end of the course, course participants will be able to plan lessons with consideration to aims, learners’ needs as well as error correction techniques; This session will focus on different lesson planning frameworks as well as the differences between main and sub aims. Course participants will also learn about error correction techniques in reading/listening lessons.

Planning Receptive Skills Lessons:

By the end of the course, course participants will be able to plan a receptive skill lesson lesson with consideration to aims, learners’ needs and etc; This session will help course participants identify the different productive sub skills and plan accordingly with error correction in mind.

Presenting New Language:

By the end of the course, course participants will be able to identify different ways to present new language; analyze language needed for system lessons with focus on meaning, form and pronunciation; identify different ways to convey, elicit and check new language; The above aims are considered the most crucial in any CELTA course as well as in real life planning. These sessions will familiarize course participants with the aspects of language they need to examine when planning language systems lessons (grammar, lexis, phonology and functional language). They will focus on presenting new language effectively with solid focus on the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target structure, they will also introduce course participants to a range of clarification techniques.

Using Course books:

By the end of the course, course participants will be able to assess textbook materials and design/ select others that help achieve the lesson aims; This session complements what course participants have already covered in the presenting new language session(s). It is a practical session helping course participants to examine several course books and decide which tasks they find appropriate for the language/skill(s) they are planning to teach.

Planning Productive Skills Lessons:

By the end of the course, course participants will be able to plan a productive skill lesson lesson with consideration to aims, learners’ needs as well as error correction techniques; This session will help course participants differentiate between skills and systems lessons. It will also discuss the different sub skills that teachers need to focus on when planning/delivering receptive skills lessons.

How to Teach Writing:

This looks at how to organise writing skills lessons and how to deliver effective writing skills lessons.

How to Teach Speaking:

This looks at a variety of tasks and how to categorize them in terms of whether they promote accuracy or fluency. It also familiarizes course participants with a framework to help them deliver effective speaking lessons.

Who Should Take This Course?

Ideal for those who:

Course Info

Intensive a week and half, 3 hours each, 8 working days, total of 24 hours + 3 hours of consultation
Part time 4 weeks, only Saturdays and Sundays, 3 hours each ,total of 24 hours + 3 hours of consultation

All applicants should have a level of English equivalent to B2 or above.
Have a reasonable language awareness with a high level of English, especially in writing and speaking skills.
Have a standard of education that would allow them entry to Higher Education in their country.

Interested applicants should fill in a form on our website. They will then be contacted for an interview (online or face to face) where there will be a timed writing task and an evaluation.

In the case of cancellation four weeks or more before the course starting date, 20% of our total fee will be retained. With less than two weeks’ notice, 50% of our total fee will be retained. If cancellation occurs in the final ten days before the starting date our total fee will be retained.

However, in certain exceptional circumstances we will consider transferring the fees to another course.

In the event of a course being cancelled all fees will be refunded.

NOTE Once the course has started, there is no possible refund. For this reason, you might consider taking out an insurance policy in order to be covered in case anything happen and you needed to leave the course.

If the course is delayed or prevented by Force Majeure, then Reach Out Academy shall NOT be liable for a refund.
