This is a 30-hour course that prepares interested applicants for the Cambridge Certificate for teaching English to speakers of other languages (CELTA).

By the end of the course, participants should be able to:

recognize the CELTA requirements and identify key terminologies and interview processes;

identify the differences between the four written assignments and the rubric for each one

evaluate their own language awareness

plan lessons taking into account the aims of the lesson and the learners’ needs

discuss the challenges facing L2 learners

understand a variety of error correction techniques

analyse the language needed for systems lessons focusing on meaning, form and pronunciation;

identify different ways of presenting new language

identify different ways of eliciting and checking the meaning of new language

plan receptive skills lessons to develop the students’ sub skills

plan productive lessons to develop the students’ sub skills

identify different classroom management techniques in both f2f and online classes.

assess textbook materials and design/ select others that help achieve the aims of the lesson and differentiate between different types of language practice in systems lessons

Course Content:

The CELTA Application Process: the interview and related tasks:

By the end of the session, course participants will be able to recognize the CELTA course requirements and identify key terminologies and the interview process. The session will guide course participants as to how to apply for the course and familiarise them with the requirements needed for acceptance.

Written Assignments:

By the end of the session, course participants will learn about the four written assignments they have to do once they are on the course.

Language Awareness:

By the end of the session, course participants will be able to identify their linguistic ability and evaluate their strengths and what they need to work on.

Presenting New Language:

By the end of the session, course participants will be able to identify different ways of analysing and presenting new language. The session will focus on system lessons focusing on meaning, form and pronunciation, and will help course participants identify different ways to elicit and check the meaning of new language. The session will also introduce course participants to a range of clarification techniques.

Lesson Planning:

By the end of the session, course participants will be able to plan lessons according to the aims of the lesson and the learners’ needs. This session will focus on different lesson planning frameworks as well as the differences between main and sub aims.

Planning Receptive Skills Lessons:

By the end of the session, course participants will be able to plan a receptive skills lesson. This session will help course participants identify the different receptive sub skills and learn how to develop them in class.

Planning Productive Skills Lessons:

By the end of the session, course participants will be able to plan a productive skills lesson. It will also discuss the different sub skills that teachers need to focus on when planning/delivering productive skills lessons.

Assessing textbook materials:

By the end of the session, course participants will be able to assess textbook materials and design/ select materials that help to achieve the aims of the lesson. This session complements what course participants have already covered in the presenting new language session. It is a practical session that helps course participants to examine several course books and decide which tasks they find appropriate for the language/skill(s) they are planning to teach.

Error Correction and Feedback:

By the end of the session, course participants will be familiar with a variety of error correction techniques. It will focus on when and how to correct errors and give feedback according to the lesson type.

Course participants will be assessed on their participation, teaching practice and completion of their reflection tasks.

All applicants should have:
a level of English equivalent to B2 or above
reasonable language awareness with a high level of English, especially in writing and speaking skills
a standard of education that would allow them entry to Higher Education in their country

Interested applicants should fill in a form on our website. They will then be contacted for an interview (online or face-to-face) where there will be a timed writing task and an evaluation.

All applicants should have a level of English equivalent to B2 or above.
Have a reasonable language awareness with a high level of English, especially in writing and speaking skills.
Have a standard of education that would allow them entry to Higher Education in their country.

In the case of cancellation four weeks or more before the course starting date, 20% of our total fee will be retained. With less than two weeks’ notice, 50% of our total fee will be retained. If cancellation occurs in the final ten days before the starting date our total fee will be retained.

However, in certain exceptional circumstances we will consider transferring the fees to another course.

In the event of a course being cancelled all fees will be refunded.

NOTE Once the course has started, there is no possible refund. For this reason, you might consider taking out an insurance policy in order to be covered in case anything happen and you needed to leave the course.

If the course is delayed or prevented by Force Majeure, then Reach Out Academy shall NOT be liable for a refund.
